One-on-One Sessions with Ammi-Joan Paquette 

Come spend 20 minutes one-on-one with Erin Murphy Literary agent Ammi-Joan Paquette, where she will be at your disposal to answer questions and offer individualized advice and feedback. Bring your query, your first page, a printout of your current Facebook page or your most recent blogs and tweets, bring your one year, three year, five year plans as a writer/illustrator, your royalty statement, or recent personal rejection letters, and get some advice on craft or marketing yourself and your work from one of the best!  Register online $45.00 (must be registered for ID or SM)

PAL MEMBERS BOOK LAUNCH and BOOK SALES  
Southern Breezers with new Published and Listed books are invited to participate in our annual 
book sale at the conference. No additional fee for this activity. Submit titles and information during online registration no later than March 1 in order to ensure books are ordered by the bookseller.

Book launches are books published within the last two years that have not previously been launced at Springmingle. To participate, you must send a digital image of your book cover plus title, publisher, date and your name to Heather Montgomery, sipsey21@hotmail.com by March 1. At lunch on Saturday, you will have 3 minutes to speak to the conference attendees about your book and your story of publication. 

 

ILLUSTRATORS' Portfolio Display
Illustrators may display their portfolios. Bring your portfolio to registration for set-up. For more information about displaying portfolios, check the SCBWI website. No additional fee for this activity.

 

Formal critiques Register online $40
The deadline for submitting manuscripts for formal critique is February 23, 2013.
Manuscripts should be formatted according to guidelines found in the SCBWI publication“From Keyboard to Printed Page,” available at: www.scbwi.orgClick on "Resource Library," then click on"Getting Started," then click on “From Keyboard to Printed Page.”  Submit as an attachment to an email sent to Claudia Pearson with the header, "Formal Critique Submission" and the title of your work. Please indicate in the email the genre of your manuscript.

 

- All manuscripts should be formatted on 8.5 x 11" white paper in black ink.
- Use 12 point Ariel or Times New Roman font double spaced.
- Set margins at 1" or larger.
- The header on the first page should include your name, address, telephone and email.
- The title and by line should appear a third way down the first page with text below.
Do not include any illustrations or dummies.

 

 Portfolios being formally critiqued should be brought to the conference.

 

Informal Critiques

This activity offers the opportunity to critique others' work and have your work critiqued by peers. There is no charge for this activity. Bring at least 5 copies of your work, no more than 2500 words please, to the conference.

 

 

Image/Eight

This activity offers a quick critique by the faculty panel of first lines and illustrations which will be presented anonymously in a general session. There is no additional fee for this activity.

 

First Eight Lines should be submitted in the same format as manuscripts submitted for formal critques. The maximum word count for the first eight lines is 150 words. To participate, bring five copies of your first eight lines only and turn it in at the registration table.  Please indicate genre (picturebook, magazine, young adult, nonfiction, magazine) in the header. These are anonomys so please do not include any identifying information on the page. Submissions will be divided into genre and a sampling of them will be read anonymously aloud at the conference. 

 

Images should be submitted to the registration desk at the conference. To participate, please bring 5 physical copies of one illustration and turn them in at the registration desk.  So that the image can be properly displayed for the audience, the page size should be no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches (the original does not have to be proportional to those dimensions). These are anonomys so please do not include any identifying information on the page. Do not submit originals.

Please note that due to time constraints, not all submissions for Images/Eights Looks will be reviewed. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT first eight or illustrations which are being submitted for a formal critique.
