SCBWI Statement on Equity and Inclusion

Southern Breeze MISSION and VISION

1) Reach. We seek to reach prospective members from diverse communities not previously aware of SCBWI and educate existing members about creating diverse books for young readers.

2) Include. We seek to include more creators and characters from groups that have been historically under-represented.

3) Belong. We seek to foster a welcoming environment, sense of belonging for all, and an understanding that everyone should have a voice in children’s literature.

  • We Need Diverse Books: Resources for individuals and groups involved in many levels of children’s publishing

  • Cooperative Children’s Book Center: Children’s Books by and about People of Color Published in the United States.
