Sharon Pegram new Co-RA!

We are so very pleased to announce that Sharon Pegram has agreed to be our Co-RA for Southern Breeze! There are many “moving parts” to the job, and many wonderful volunteers who have already worked with Sharon. She comes to the job with a great deal of experience.

She served as Conference Coordinator for Southern Breeze for our 2012 and 2013 fall conferences, and since becoming ARA in 2015, she has been an integral part of all Southern Breeze event planning. In fact, if you have attended an SCBWI or Southern Breeze conference, you probably saw her there. She has attended Southern Breeze regional conferences each year of her membership as well as smaller regional events including retreats and local workshops, and has attended SCBWI LA in 2015, 2016, and 2018, and SCBWI NY in 2017.

She is indeed an asset for our region and I know she will serve our members well. As we see more competition in our area from other literary organizations, we want our conferences and programs to stand out by providing not just access to publishing professionals but excellent craft and market education and a supportive community for our members. Together, we will continue to work toward increasing both the numbers and the diversity of our membership. We also plan to keep our PAL members involved by offering programming focused toward developing their careers and opportunities for them to give back to the region through teaching and mentoring.

Sharon is fully equipped to pursue these goals. As is clear from her past service, she is going to be a great leader for our region. This is especially important at this time. Some of you may not be aware that I will be retiring in 2020 (SCBWI Headquarters has established a ten year maximum on RA service) and having a co-RA will facilitate that transition greatly. We have a great Regional Team with Sharon, Cathy and TeMika, and I know that Southern Breeze will be in great hands.

Please join us in congratulating Sharon and supporting her and the rest of our regional leaders with your volunteer time as we move forward. You can read more about Sharon on the Southern Breeze Blog, just click on the link!

Hope to see you in Decatur!
