Archetype – The God Particle of Creativity (ADVANCED)

Why do classic works of art have such lasting resonance today? How do books like Fifty Shades of Grey become pop-culture juggernauts? What do TV shows The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and Hannibal have in common? What does the Epic of Gilgamesh have to do with anything? Why are there so many superhero movies, and how do Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss use “The Hero’s Journey?” This workshop will examine Jungian Archetypes and how they inform plot, character, and theme. We will also discuss ways to amplify archetype in any work through fulfillment, subversion, and inversion. Every writer of every genre may benefit from the study of archetype, allowing them to utilize tropes, avoid clichés, and maximize the impact of their work.
