“Donut” Miss this Graphic Novel Panel! October 29th 7:00-8:30pm (free): Meet author-illustrator, Mika Song, and her agent, Erica Rand Silverman (of Stimola Literary Studio) and hear them talk about Mika’s early graphic novel, DONUT FEED THE SQUIRRELS, and their thoughts on the growing graphic novel scene! You’ll also get a peek into Mika’s creating process including her advice on writing/submitting a script for graphic novels and how she created a compelling plot with fewer words. In the Q & A following, the panelists will be happy to answer questions about writing and illustrating graphic novels, picture books, and more! This panel is for anyone interested in writing and illustrating for kids, and particularly those with an interest in learning industry scoop about writing and/or illustrating graphic novels.
BONUS: Mika and Erica are giving away (2) portfolio reviews to illustrator registrants, and there will be door prizes for writers too! The recording of this event will be available for 1 month afterward.

Vicky is the award winning author of Young Adult Fiction, Middle Grade Biographies and Mythologies, and Adult Historical Fiction, and we’re lucky enough that she calls Southern Breeze home! Join Cobb County LL Kara Bietz in conversation with Vicky, where they’ll cover topics such as research, the journey to publication, and how to effectively have a career in several different genres. Vicky will also share some of her favorite writing exercises, so bring a sharpened pencil and some paper! Come armed with questions, too, because there will be plenty of time to get all of your burning research and writing questions answered. Join us on November 16 at 7pm eastern.

“Inspiration for the Author in you” is all about an afternoon dedicated to helping you find the author that lives inside of you! You will hear from four amazing Authors that are all members of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). The lineup of Authors are Sucheta Rawal, Jenny L. Cote, Jesse Byrd and Jennifer Swanson. International Author and Motivational Speaker, Rhonda Knight will be interviewing each of these fascinating Authors. During our Q&A segment, there will then be a chance for you as our viewing audience, to ask questions of any of our Authors or Hostess. This SCBWI event is really all about YOU! Our goals are to inspire, motivate and encourage you as an aspiring Author and to hopefully push you into taking the next steps as an Author, so that we will be able to perhaps read your books in the near future. Please join us and be sure to take good notes, as you hear some great stories from these successful Authors, in the field of Children’s books and the book Writers’ industry! Want to help organize a retreat in your area? Southern Breeze is an all volunteer organization. We depend on the support of our member volunteers to set up and schedule local events in our region. If you want to have a writers or illustrators’ retreat, contact your Local Liaison and work with them to set up an event that you would want to attend. No Local Liaison in your area? Volunteer! Contact our Membership Coordinator will provide you with information about the volunteer job.
