WIK 2020 BREAKOUT:
The Picture Book Illustration Process: In this presentation, I will go over the process of making picture books from type samples to reviewing proofs. I will also talk about trends in the current market and what we look for in artists at Little Brown Books for Young Readers.
Cover Art: A cover is the most important part of the book as that is the first thing that the potential buyer would see when they walk into stores. In this presentation, I will talk about what goes into making covers that stand out from the crowd.
Mentorship: Review and Project presentations.
MENTORSHIP: Picture Book Cover Art workshop
Participants can choose from three titles to create a cover illustration; The Lion and the Mouse, The Hare and the Tortoise, and Three Billy Goats. They can send a sketch to me by 1/11 and I will provide comments on the sketches by 2/13. The participants should bring final cover art to the workshop and I will review the final art in front of the group.
