The Southern Breeze Published Members group is sponsoring a new “Read Local” program. The program will promote up to 24 authors (1 book per author) for k-5 schools/classrooms throughout to promote literacy by reading local authors. This program will also connect local authors with schools.
The Read Local program will run Sept.1- Dec. 31, 2023.
24 Authors will be chosen by a committee. The chosen authors will pay $100 to join the program.*
Schools will register for class packets and encourage students to read books from local authors, earn stickers, and be eligible for classroom grand prizes.
The program will distribute up to 500 class packets to schools/contacts within the Southern Breeze Region. Each class packet will include:
—A “welcome to the program” letter
—One 11”x17” full-color poster. The poster includes instructions about the pilot program and lists all 24 books and authors.
—30 “You did it” stickers
—One B/W page of printable trackers with book covers so students can track progress (checkmarks).
Participants will also have access to the Southern Breeze Read Local website page where they will find author bios, book summaries, links to author websites, and downloadable B/W and/or color pdfs of materials and completion certificates.
Potential for schools/classes to win grand prizes – books, virtual visits, etc., which will be awarded at the end of the program.
